We sponsor speakers, seminars, and events.

The Center for Studies in Democracy and Culture organizes programs, seminars, and activities designed to stimulate interest in contemporary issues in our society, as well as greater understanding of global cultures. Participants include members of the Oklahoma community, in addition to OU students and faculty. The center has welcomed guests from dozens of countries, and speakers have included top diplomats parentheses including ambassadors), prominent academics, well-known authors, political leaders, and many others. The Center takes great pride in its active partnership work with other organizations in Oklahoma and around the world. The Center for Studies in Democracy and Cultureis not an academic program, although the Director of the Center is a member of the OU Graduate College and the faculty of the OU Department of Human relations. For more information about Rodger Randle, the Director of the Center, click here (para información en español, haz clique aquí; para português, faça clique aquí)).

The programs and activities of the Center are open to the public. If you would like to be added to the invitation list for Center activities, click here to send an email to the Director and let him know you are interested. He will be pleased to add you to the list. There is no charge.

We would be honored to have you join us!

THE CENTER'S COMMITTMENT TO DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

Documentary photos inspire our imagination and attract our attention. They give us insights into other cultures and other people's. The photos in the Center's collection, all taken by the Director, Rodger Randle, provide perspectives on places and peoples in over two dozen different countries. The photos are incorporated into Prof. Randle’s teaching, but collections have been exhibited in public and private galleries (including at the Oklahoma State Capitol).

Prof. Randle is a recipient of the Oklahoma Governor’s Art Award.

We are working to add to online availabilty of phto essays and exhibits.

You are invited to browse our collections.

Photography is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.
