Internal Funding Opportunities
Sponsored Research Incentives Program
The Sponsored Research Incentives (SRI) program was established as an incentive for departments and research units to encourage their faculty and researchers to seek external support for their research/creative activities. The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of the Vice Provost for OU-Tulsa sets aside internal funds that are distributed as SRI based upon the academic appointment of the principal investigator(s). Proposals routed after-the-fact do not accrue SRI credit.
The University policy on SRI funds provides for the distribution of an amount equal to 20% of the indirect cost recovered by the university's research enterprise to the generating areas in the proportion of 90% to the department or unit and 10% to the appropriate dean/administrator. The amount of indirect costs used to determine each year's distribution is based on the net indirect costs generated the preceding year. The net indirect costs is equal to the indirect costs recovered by a project minus the direct cost match provided by the Office of the Vice-President for Research and/or the Office of the Vice Provost for OU-Tulsa and expended in support of the project. Therefore, the net indirect costs realized during a fiscal year will be used to determine the SRI distribution in the next fiscal year. As a general rule, the funds are distributed during the first quarter of the fiscal year. However, distribution of SRI may be delayed for research units who have faculty with technical reports that are more than 90 days delinquent.
Additionally, qualifying grants/contracts from approved interdisciplinary research centers are eligible for an extra allocation. An additional 20% is distributed directly to the individual interdisciplinary research centers in accordance with the Centers and Double Sponsored Research Incentive (Double SRI) policy found at the Vice President for Research website.
The SRI program is administered by the Vice President for Research and jointly funded by the Vice President for Research and the Vice Provost for OU-Tulsa. SRI funds in Tulsa pertain to grants and contracts that are routed through the Office of Research Services for the Norman campus and on which the PI/PD is a faculty member who is resident in Tulsa and affiliated with a College that reports through the Provost for the Norman Campus.
